Field Trip Guidelines

Field Trip + Group visit Guidelines

We are ecstatic to see your group at Discovery Lab for the upcoming scheduled field trip! Please review the following information prior to arriving at the museum to assure a great experience for you and your students.

Important Rules

Here are a few rules that are important to remember and impart to your chaperones in preparation for a safe and engaging experience. Chaperones are responsible for ensuring the group respects these guidelines while attending our facility for the safety of staff and visitors.
  • Students should always be accompanied by teacher or chaperone during the group visit
  • Shoes off when in the tunnels & shoes on everywhere else in the museum
  • Little Lab is only accessible to children five and younger
  • Practice consideration for all guests and visitors

Bus Drop Off/ Check In

Buses should come North on Riverside and turn into the museum parking and pull into the bus inlet lane on the immediate north side of the building.
Field Trip Entry Map

Students should stay on the bus. A Discovery Lab staff will come to the bus to greet the students and lead them into the building through our Group Entry door. There is NOT parking in the museum’s lot for buses. Once students have disembarked from the bus, busses can park in the gravel lot to the south of the museum and Crow Creek off of Riverside. Pick-up will be in the same bus lane used for drop-off.

The field trip leader should give their student and adult counts for the trip to the Discovery Lab staff member that greets the bus. We will need the total number of students, teachers and additional adult chaperones that are attending the field trip on that date to be included for billing. Any parent or chaperone paying separately from your group will need to check-in at our guest services desk upon arrival and pay $10 plus tax at the front desk when they arrive. If you would like to ensure that your chaperones are charged the discounted group rate of 10% off admission price, all admissions will need to be included on your group’s total invoice and paid for in one payment. Any of the individually paying chaperones will be charged the standard general admission rate with tax and will enter through the front door to meet-up with the field trip in the exhibit hall area unless otherwise communicated and agreed to in advance.

If you are delayed, please call 539-832-8617 so we know when to expect you.

Car Check In

Parking for cars is available in the museum parking lot and you will then meet the group at our Group Entry on the west side of the Main Lobby. Overflow parking can be found in the gravel lot shared with Gathering Place located just south of the museum. Once your group has arrived, a Discovery Lab staff member will greet your group, get you checked-in, and do a quick orientation for the entire group.

When your field trip reservation is confirmerd, you will receive an itinerary when you arrive at Discovery Lab.

Discovery Lab has an outdoor amphitheater located adjacent to the Gathering Place, students are welcome to eat outside in the amphitheater or the park.  If the weather does not permit, we can make arrangements to eat in the classrooms, if they are not in use.
